More Than $5.9 Million In Federal Disaster Grants Awarded To Three NW Iowa Communities

April 27, 2026

(Undated)– More than $5.9 million in federal disaster recovery grants is coming to several northwest Iowa communities ravaged by the 2024 flood. The money is coming through the Federal Emergency Management Agency, with more than $2.3 million going to the city of Spencer.

Others awarded funding include the Buena Vista County Conservation Board, which will receive more than $2.2 million, and the city of Cherokee, which will be getting more than $1.4 million.

A press released from Congressman Randy Feenstra’s office says the funds will support critical infrastructure repairs, wastewater treatment facility upgrades and transportation improvements. In Spencer’s case, the funding will go toward the wastewater treatment facility which sustained significant damage in the disaster.
