(Arnolds Park)– The Okoboji Foundation’s Youth In Philanthropy program has concluded for another school year. Foundation President Mindy Gress says it was another record setting year for the program…
“You know last year they broke the record in the amount of money they brought in and raised in the community, and this year the record break was in the grant making and awarding over $93,000 to local nonprofits which is the most amount they have granted out in a single year.”
Gress says it speaks volumes of the students and the community…
“For these students to come to us to learn about just the area nonprofits and then go out and talk to their family and friends and community leaders to raise the money that they then give out is just incredible, and we are so proud about everything that they do.”
Gress says they’ll hold a special event next month to announce this year’s grant recipients…
“Yeah, May 21st will be our annual Hello Summer event where we’re just welcoming people back to the warmer weather and we’ll talk about what the grant awards were for, both the Youth in Philanthropy side of the grant making program as well as our general grant-making across the foundation, so. Looking to give out a wonderful number this year again. We are still working on finalizing grants from our larger grant committee, but the impact is going to be incredible and that’s in part due to the work of these students.”
This year’s Youth in Philanthropy students raised a whopping $103,900. Gress adds they’re very grateful to the community members who donated.
