You’ll Be Able To Take A Stroll Back In Time April 30th In Downtown Spirit Lake

April 17, 2026

(Spirit Lake)– You’ll be able to re-live some history of downtown Spirit Lake at an event Thursday evening, April 30th. Krista Smith of the Spirit Lake Chamber tells KUOO news they’re teaming up with the Dickinson County Museum for a “Stroll Back in Time”…

“So it will start at the Dickinson County Museum where participants can pick up a map of buildings that we’ll be kind of spotlighting downtown, going through their history. So they’ll start at the museum and then they can kind of take their time going at their own pace and follow the map. There will be volunteers at the buildings that are on the map, kind of sharing pictures of the history and telling stories of what the businesses used to be, what they are now, getting to see what the space is. So just a fun evening to, yeah, see all the history but to also see how downtown is thriving right now.”

Smith says they’re throwing a fun little twist into the event…

“We are also going to have some pictures printed. This is kind of a fun activity we came up with where there will be some pictures from different spots in Spirit Lake long, long ago and kind of challenging participants to find the spot today and compare the picture, so kind of a fun, interactive evening with the Dickinson County Museum.”

She adds the event is free of charge and pre-registration isn’t needed…

“We are so appreciative to Northwest Bank who is sponsoring the event for the evening.”

The April 30th Stroll Back in Time will be held from 5:00 until 7:30 pm, beginning at the Dickinson County Museum in the old Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific railroad depot on Keokuk Avenue, just off Highways 9 & 71 in Spirit Lake.
