Multiple Grass/Field Fires Reported Throughout The Region Late Friday

April 11, 2026

(Undated)– Numerous grass and field fires were reported throughout the area late Friday afternoon, stretching some fire departments thin.

The Spirit Lake, Estherville and Terril Fire Departments battled a large grassland fire northeast of Superior in the area of 140th Street and 340th Avenue. It took firefighters several hours to put that out, with at least two pieces of equipment getting stuck.

The Milford and Lake Park fire departments battled a grass fire in the Horseshoe Bend area southwest of Milford the same time.

The Wallingford and Estherville Fire Departments battled a grass fire south of Wallingford. Authorities say that fire was allowed to burn through the night with supervision.

There were no reports of structures being threatened in any of the fires and no injuries were reported. Authorities say the fires were the result of controlled burns that went OUT of control. They’re hoping the rain that’s in the forecast will be substantial enough to take some of the edge off the fire danger.
