Free Local Training Session Next Month Will Address Trauma In Youth

March 26, 2026

(Spencer)– Seasons Center invites community professionals and caregivers to attend a free training seminar that will highlight understanding trauma’s impact on children and the adults who support them. Sarah Heinricks-Wurm, the Vice President of Program Development and Specialized Services at Seasons Center says the training will be done in two parts…

“The first part would be foundations of trauma. So really kind of that, that process of, um, or that training related to what trauma is, how it shapes the brain and the nervous system, what those influences on attachment and behavior. Um, when we’re working with kiddos who maybe have experienced some early childhood trauma or who have been impacted by trauma, and then the second part of the training seminar would be really taking it into that application stage of how can we as caregivers for individuals who have experienced trauma A provide, you know, those best case strategies to assist them, but also how can we take care of ourselves in that secondary traumatic stress and burnout and really working to prevent that.”

Heinrichs-Wurm says this training is especially important now…

“We’ve experienced a lot of things over the past several years, both locally and on a national level, but also just the exposure of trauma in in younger generations continues to grow. And it’s important for anybody who is in a caretaker role in working with kiddos to be able to adapt and implement strategies to work with kiddos. A lot of times we think about like, what’s wrong with you versus what happened to you. So if we can educate ourselves both as professionals as well as community members and personal affiliations with kiddos, if we can better educate ourselves to respond and adapt to kind of some of those symptoms or signs or behaviors, get those kiddos connected with the right supports, but then also on the back end, take care of ourselves.”

This free training seminar will take place on April 16th from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at Hope Church in Spencer. This training is designed for professionals and caregivers who work with children.
