Two Teens Face Charges In Pocahontas Armed Robbery

(Pocahontas)– Charges have been filed against two teens in connection with an armed robbery Saturday in Pocahontas.

The Pocahontas Police Department says officers were called around 3:30 pm after getting a report of male threatening a person with a handgun near an elementary school. Witnesses identified suspects as a 16-year-old from Humboldt and 18-year-old Gideon Ayafa of Pocahontas.

The victim, who’s name hasn’t been released, told police he was robbed at gunpoint by the two suspects and was then assaulted.

Ayafa is being held in the Pocahontas County Jail on charges of robbery in the 1st degree, possession of a controlled substance…marijuana; and theft in the 5th degree.

The 16-year-old is being held at the juvenile detention facility in Cherokee.

Authorities say there was no threat to the school, but additional officers were on hand today (Mon.) as a precaution.
