Walleye Weekend Grant Applications Now Being Accepted

March 05, 2026

(Arnolds Park)– The Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce is now accepting grant applications for Walleye Weekend. Each year a portion of the proceeds from Walleye Weekend are awarded through grants to benefit angling-related projects in the Iowa Great Lakes. Chamber President and CEO Blain Andera says last year, that amounted to some $20,000…

“Last year we gave a grant to Camp Foster to update fishing equipment for their campers; Center Lake Improvement, East Lake Improvement for aquatic weed control; Okoboji Protective Association for water quality and testing; Iowa Great Lakes Fishing Club, this is one I’m kind of proud of too, Steve, is we gave $5,000 to go towards fishing equipment that they give away to kids in Dickinson county that attends their programs. We gave $6,000 to the Spirit Lake Protective Association last year that is going to go towards the new public dock at Marble Beach. Really encourage organizations that have a focus on angling and fishing in the Iowa Great Lakes to apply.”

You can do that online…

“The easiest way is at okobojichamber.com. You can click the events tab for Walleye Weekend and you can download the form right there. It’s a really simple form, Steve. We try to make it as easy as we could and not ask for a great big, drawn out detailed list from the folks. But if you can’t find it or want more information you can call the chamber, happy to mail it to you or you can stop by our office.”

Applications are due by May 1st. This year’s recipients will be announced following Walleye Weekend, May 2nd and 3rd.

It’s the 44th year for Walleye Weekend, meaning this year’s grand prize for anyone who catches one of the 10 specially tagged walleye is worth $44,000. Participant registration for Walleye Weekend continues as well, up until Friday, May 1st.
