Two Men Arrested Following An Assault That Left One Person Seriously Injured

February 27, 2026

(Estherville)– Two people face charges in connection with an assault in Estherville Thursday.

Police were called around 5:13 pm Thursday to an apartment at 9 South 9th Street and found a man bleeding from the mouth with injuries to his face. An ambulance was called and the man was taken to a hospital.

The victim told police the individuals responsible had left in a grey mini-van and were possibly headed to Armstrong or Algona. That information was relayed to neighboring law enforcement agencies. A continued investigation allowed authorities to determine the suspects were Josephine Cole of Armstrong and Michael Ellison of West Bend. Police say the two allegedly lured the victim out of the apartment. Police allege that Ellison then assaulted the man.

Cole and Ellison were arrested following a traffic stop in Kossuth county. They were charged with willful injury causing serious injury, a class “C” felony. Both were being held in Kossuth county on charges related to the traffic stop and will be later brought to Emmet county.
