Dickinson County Supervisors Approve Contract For Joint Effort To Update Long Term Zoning Plan

February 03, 2026

(Spirit Lake)– Dickinson County Supervisors this (Tues.) morning voted 5-0 for the county to enter into a contract with a consultant that will assist the county and Iowa Great Lakes Sanitary District in interviewing firms to assist in updating the county’s comprehensive land use plan.

Zoning Administrator Megan Kardell told the supervisors they plan to meet further on the matter Thursday.

The $24,000 cost of the contract will be divided evenly between the county, the Planning and Zoning Office and the Sanitary District.

It marks the first time ever the entities have joined forces in coming up with a long term zoning plan. Kardell said they’re hopeful the collaboration will help make some grant opportunities available as well.
