(Spirit Lake)– February is recognized as American Heart Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about heart disease which is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States. Individuals are encouraged to focus on their cardiovascular health and learn about risk factors. Tim Paluch, Director of PR & Marketing with Life Serve Blood Center, says it’s also an important time to remind people to donate blood…
“I don’t think people realize just how much you know. Donating blood was, like, kind of affects people who are having heart surgeries and things like that. You know, it’s something where blood is so important for cardiovascular procedures and heart transplants, bypass surgeries, things like that.”
Paluch says the blood you give with Life Serve Blood Center stays local…
“If we are collecting blood in your area, in your town, that means we are supplying blood to the hospitals in your area as well. During heart month, we even have a blood drive at Lakes Regional there in Spirit Lake.”
There will be a blood drive at Dickinson County Expo Center on February 17th from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm. On February 20th they will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 9:50 AM to 2:00 PM and then at Lakes Regional Healthcare on February 23rd from 10:00 AM to 1:45 PM. You can schedule an appointment at lifeservebloodcenter.org or by calling 800.287.4903
