There will be choirs from around the area at the Janice K Lund Performing Arts Center today through Thursday. Bret Fuelberth, Vocal Music Professor at Iowa Lakes says Jazz and Show Choirs from all over the area will be there.
“We have thirty one choirs coming to Iowa Lakes to perform on our Performing Arts Center stage. So it’s a free event and public can come, and pretty much most every area school show, choir and jazz choirs come in and they’ll perform. And then they get a clinic session with one of our clinicians. And it’s just a free fun days. And people can just come and watch the choirs perform.”
Clay Blackman of Omaha, Nebraska will be the show choir clinicians and the Jazz choirs will work with Dr. Kurt Runestad of Crete, Nebraska and Duane Ites of Spirit Lake. Fuelberth says the Jazz and Show choirs get the chance to learn from the clinicians.
“The clinicians that we have come working with them are entertaining as well. They go up on stage and they get a chance to work with those choirs after their performance to make the choir get better. So if you enjoy, you know, entertaining music and if you got some time on during the day, it’s pretty much all day, every day, the next three days.”
The Jazz and Show Choir Festival is open to the public and runs through Thursday. You can find the most up-to-date schedule and last minute changes on the Iowa Lakes Music Department Facebook page or you can call 712-362-7963
