(Cherokee)– No injuries were reported in a house fire early Thursday in Cherokee.
Firefighters were called around 1:00 am to an address on West Cherry Street and found visible fire and smoke upon arriving.
Authorities say no one was home at the time the fire broke out. It was discovered by a passerby who called 911.
Two dogs and two cats were rescued from the residence and were expected to be okay. The house sustained significant damage.
Authorities say it appears the fire was caused by some fireworks that had been improperly discarded.
A closed door is being credited for limiting the spread of the fire, heat and smoke to other areas of the home, with the worst of the damage contained to the area of where the fire initially started.
