(Estherville)– The exterior of some houses in Estherville will be getting some upgrades thanks to some $48,000 in grants the city council awarded Monday.
City Administrator Penny Clayton says 14 applications were received in the latest round of grants through Estherville’s Neighborhood Facade Grant Program. She says Excel! Estherville, which oversees the program, recommended 12 of those be awarded funding through the competitive grants…
“Based on really a couple of things, value to the housing stock, so making sure our homes remain in good repair; and the aesthetics. How does it make our community look? So it’s really a twofold thing. It’s a 50-50 reimbursement up to a maximum of $4,000. So if a person has an $8,000 project, after the project is done and we receive some pictures, we reimburse them 50 percent of that. If they have something less than $8,000, say it’s $6,000, then we would pay them only three because it’s 50-50 up to that max of $4,000.”
The application deadline for the latest round of grants was November 14th.
