Iowa D.O.T: At Least Five Plow Trucks Were Hit During This Past Weekend’s Winter Storm

December 01, 2025

(Des Moines)– Over 800 snowplows spent the weekend clearing the roads across Iowa after a winter storm dropped a foot or more of snow in parts of the state. Craig Bargfrede is with the Iowa Department of Transportation…

“Unfortunately we did have some folks who didn’t heed our warnings and what not and we did have five plows that were hit across the state, and pretty much all of those were rear-end hits.”

He cautions drivers to expect a plow in a snow plume and adjust their speed and distance to avoid hitting them.

The storm also kept the Iowa State Patrol busy. Sergeant Alex Dinkla says troopers handled more than 200 crashes…

“Just like this morning, I’ve seen it at numerous intersections. People coming up to stop signs and they slide right through. You knew the stop sign was there. Try to stop a little sooner because you’ve got to have that mindset that those roads are slick. There’s ice on those roads.”

Several schools in the area had late starts this (Mon.) morning due to the conditions.
