Spencer Fire Chief Jesse Coulson says firefighters and police were called to 700 West 11th Street Southwest around 3:30 pm after several people reported the smell. Coulson says multiple gas detectors were deployed in the building. A perimeter was also established around the scene and an inspection was conducted on some rooftop HVAC systems.
Crews with Black Hills Energy also responded to the scene along with the owner of the building.
Coulson says crews were unable to locate any hazardous conditions and the property was released to Black Hills Energy and the owner of the building.
The Dickens Fire Department also responded to the scene as additional personnel were needed. Firefighters were on the scene a little more than an hour.
