(Spirit Lake)– Multiple injuries were reported in a two-vehicle collision Sunday afternoon on Highways 9 & 71 just west of the Jackson Y.
The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says 38-year-old Deja Daniels of Ceylon, Minnesota was driving a 2013 Ford F150 westbound and 41-year-old Roger Baltonado Gutierrez of Estherville was driving a 2006 Pontiac eastbound when he lost control of his vehicle which spun backward and collided with the pickup driven by Daniels. The vehicle driven by Baltonado Gutierrez came to rest in the ditch.
Daniels was treated on the scene and released.
Three occupants in the car, all from Estherville, were transported by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare. Baltonado Gutierrez and Raymundo Granja Gonzales sustained non-incapacitating injuries; Marionella Collero Gomez had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Spirit Lake Fire Department. She was later transferred by air to Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Authorities say the collision is still under investigation. It took place around 3:19 pm.
The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Spirit Lake Police Department, Iowa DNR, the Estherville Police Department, Emmet County Sheriff’s Office, a translator from the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, Spirit Lake Fire Department and First Responders, ambulances from Terril and Lakes Regional Healthcare and Jennings Tow and Repair. The Lakes Area Extrication unit was also called to the scene but was cancelled while enroute.
