(Estherville)– November 11th is a day to honor our veterans and Iowa Lakes Community College will host a ceremony at the Janice K Lund Performing Arts Center. Iowa Lakes Veteran Center Director Tim Ireland talks about what will be involved in the ceremony…
“We’re going to have a guest speaker. Lo Henderson. He’s an active duty Army and Marine retired. He’s going to be the guest speaker. Michelle Kogel, one of our Iowa Lakes Community College instructors, she’s got six years in the Iowa Army National guard, she’s going to be emcee. Brooke Williams, one of our student Specialist Brooke Williams with the Iowa Army National Guard, she’s in our criminal justice program and she’ll be talking about the history of Veterans Day. Our band and choir, led by our directors Professor Lincoln Larsen and Professor Fuelberth so our band and chorus will be performing as well.”
Ireland says it’s important to honor our veterans…
“They’ve done a lot of sacrificing for everybody else whether you’re able to see that or not. If you’re in a family that has a military member, you get to see that firsthand. But they make life in America what it is today. They provide an umbrella of protection that we don’t think about day to day.”
The ceremony will be held at 11 AM on November 11th at the Janice K Lund Performing Arts Center. The Estherville VFW John W. Bradford Post 3388 will present the colors. This is free and open to the public. For those unable to attend the ceremony in person it will be live streamed at iowalakes.edu
