(Spirit Lake)– Not only is it fall, but it also marks the beginning of flu season. Katy Carey of Dickinson County Public Health says there’s something we can do now to help protect ourselves from the flu and other respiratory ailments…
“So prevention is key and trying to keep everybody healthy. We’re at the beginning of the respiratory season so anything you can do to set yourself up for success this season is great. We have clinics every Tuesday and Wednesday so you can just give us a call at Dickinson County Public Health at that 712-339-6050 number and we’d be happy to set you up with an appointment.”
Carey also reminds everyone to be sure to have insurance and Medicare cards with you.
Carey says as of right now, flu and respiratory ailments are still low, but that’s likely to change as we go further into the season…
“So far we’re following the curve from the last year, so it’s low right now. We’re just in October so this is a great time to get vaccinated and for other things, too, as well. So we do have the covid vaccine available for those that would like to get both of those covered and then RSV is also something that you can consider. We carry that for babies under eight months and that it’s also available for pregnant women in the clinic as well as for our older community members it’s available at the pharmacy as well.”
Carey adds they also have the high dose flu vaccine which is recommended for those over 65.
