(Spirit Lake)– One person was injured in a two-vehicle collision Monday at the intersection of Highways 9 & 71 and 250th
Avenue, or County Road M-56, on the east edge of Spirit Lake.
The Spirit Lake Police Department says 19-year-old Derrick Brandhagen of Estherville was driving a 2012 Nissan on 250th
Avenue and had stopped at a stop sign at the highway, waiting to make a left hand turn. Police say Brandhagen pulled onto the highway to go westbound when he collided with an eastbound 2019 Toyota Camry driven by 70-year-old Diana Kies of Spirit Lake. Kies was injured in the collision and was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare.
Brandhagen was cited for failure to yield while making a left turn.
$5,000 in damage was estimated to the Nissan driven by Brandhagen; damage to the Toyota driven by Kies was estimated at $10,000. The collision took place around 5:20 pm.
