(Spencer)– The month of October is Manufacturing Month. Curt Strouth, President and CEO of the Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation, says they want to pay tribute to the vital role manufacturing plays in the local, state and national economies…
“Manufacturing in the state of Iowa and our region specifically is one of the largest sectors of our workforce. It’s actually estimated about 220,000 people make up the workforce in manufacturing across the state of Iowa, which is a large number and about 17 to 20 percent is estimated contributes to our share of GDP actually comes from manufacturing. That contributes millions of dollars annually to our state and regional economy, so we want to bring awareness to that. We want to celebrate it here locally and just bring awareness to all of our leaders in manufacturing across our region that really drive our local economy.”
Strouth says they’ll be commemorating that by touring one major manufacturer in each of the Corridor’s four counties…
“We’ll invite all of our local stakeholders and partners, state representatives, Iowa Economic Development Authority as well as all of our local legislators to come in and meet all of our leadership, take a tour of these facilities, and just learn more about what these manufacturing businesses do for our communities from an economic standpoint.”
County supervisors and city officials in the corridor’s service area gathered October 2nd to sign a proclamation proclaiming October as Manufacturing Month in their respective communities.
