(Des Moines)– Iowa State Auditor Rob Sand has released a report on O’Brien county’s finances. It shows revenues for the year totaled a little more than $21.46 million for the year ended June 30th, 2024, a 23.2 percent increase over the previous fiscal year. Expenses totaled slightly more than $16.7 million, an increase of less than one percent over the previous fiscal year.
The report says funding from the Iowa Department of Transportation for some road projects, an increase in property taxes and funds from the American Rescue Plan Act were behind the increase in revenue, along with increased interest rates on investments.
The report identified a lack of segregation of duties, a lack of maintaining the required balance in the jail commissary account and a lack of reconciliations of public health billings, collections and delinquent accounts.
