Dickinson County Supervisors Approve Increases In Zoning-Related Fees

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors this (Tues.) morning voted 5-0 to approve a new schedule for zoning fees, which will be seeing an across-the-board increase. Zoning Administrator Megan Kardell told the supervisors it reflects an increase in the cost of doing business…

“In terms of, you know, postage, and milage and just simply facilitating the application.”

The action followed a public hearing that drew comment from one resident who said that while it’s important the county cover it’s costs, that county officials should not solely be raising fees just to increase revenues…

“I guess my concern is, you know with what we’re more focused on property taxes and some limitation on that growth, I think we’re starting to see more and more increases in other fees that counties are starting to impose as a way to get more revenue, and I just think we have to be really careful about just how we increase these fees and make sure that it’s really warranted and justified.”

Kardell says it’s the first time in some 25 years the fees have been adjusted. The new fee schedule is included in a resolution the supervisors adopted this (Tues.) morning, which follows:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Dickinson County Board of Supervisors, that the proposed DICKINSON COUNTY FEE SCHEDULE as published in the county’s official newspaper on August 28, 2025, and Official Public Hearing being held September 16, 2025, be approved and adopted as published.
