(Hartley)– An investigation is underway into a shooting earlier this week near Hartley.
The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to a residence on Yew Avenue a little after 3:30 pm Wednesday on a report of a 50-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was identified as Robert Leroy Peters, Jr. of Hartley. He was transported by ambulance to Spencer Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. His body has been transported to the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny for an autopsy.
O’Brien County Sheriff Bruce Devereaux says the shooting remains under investigation and that there is no threat to the public. He adds it has not yet been determined whether the gunshot wound was self-inflicted.
The Hartley Police Department and the Iowa State Patrol assisted on the scene.
