Humboldt County Man Sentenced On Federal Drug Charges

September 04, 2025

(Sioux City)– A Humboldt county man has been sentenced to 25 years in federal prison on multiple counts of possessing with the intent to distribute methamphetamine.

40-year-old Nathan Nickless of Dakota City, Iowa, pled guilty to the charges on April 1st of this year. Federal prosecutors say it stems in part from a pursuit on August 12th of 2023 in Fort Dodge that involved Nickless, and that he eventually rammed the truck he was driving into another vehicle. Nickless attempted to flea on foot but was taken into custody while trying to climb a river embankment. A search of a backpack turned up a loaded 9 millimeter pistol, about 200 grams of methamphetamine, marijuana, psychedelic mushrooms, pills, THC gummies, ammunition, a scale and baggies.

Nickless was allowed to remain free on the charges, but didn’t show up for his trial, eluding law enforcement for several months. He was spotted again by law enforcement in Humboldt county on September 28th of last year and led them on a pursuit. He eventually abandoned the vehicle and took off on foot along a river, eluding the officers. The vehicle was seized. A search warrant was obtained and executed on it, resulting in them finding methamphetamine, marijuana, pills, a scale, empty baggies and drug paraphernalia.

Nickless was apprehended October 2nd of last year after he was found hiding in a residence in Humboldt county.
