Dickinson County Nature Center Playscape Fundraising Receives Significant Boost

August 22, 2025

(Okoboji)– Fundraising efforts to build a new playscape at the Dickinson County Nature Center are getting a boost. The Dickinson County Conservation Board and the Conservation Foundation of Dickinson County have announced that an anonymous donor has committed to match every dollar donated up to $500,000 toward the project.

The current playscape, built in 2014, will be upgraded with new features including a sand digging area with a water spillway, swing garden, musical meadow, log climbing mash, raised platform with a hammock, a woodland village, boardwalk and a wetland overlook, native vegetation plantings and additional seating spaces. To see more about the proposed features, visit the website www.dickinsoncountyconservationboard.com/nature-playscape or stop in at the Nature Center.

Depending on fundraising, plans call for construction to start in the spring of 2026. Construction is expected to take a couple of months.

There are several ways to donate: gifts can be mailed to the CFDC at 22785 Nature Center Road,
Okoboji, IA 51355, in person at the Nature Center (same address), or online at
