(Spirit Lake)– A Spirit Lake man has been arrested on multiple drug charges. 24-year-old Dev Mehta was taken into custody Thursday by Spirit Lake police on charges of a controlled substance violation, a class “B” felony, and failure to affix a drug tax stamp, a class “D” felony.
A criminal complaint alleges Mehta intended to possess with the intent to deliver about 22 grams of methamphetamine. The document states that the drug was scheduled to be delivered by mail to his residence on Erie Avenue in Spirit Lake, and that Mehta had inquired about the package to U.S. Postal Service employees after it had been intercepted by law enforcement.
Mehta is being held in the Dickinson County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
According to online court records, Mehta was also arrested previously on charges of ongoing criminal conduct, three counts of forgery, theft in the 1st degree, and theft in the 4th degree. He was arrested as recently as April of this year for allegedly forging a name on a check for $2,300 and for allegedly stealing a vehicle from a rental business in Okoboji.
