(Ruthven)– An online fundraising campaign is underway in Ruthven to build a new fire station. Fire Chief Kevin Bates says they’re hoping to raise $800,000 through the campaign on the department’s Facebook page and website.
He says the current station was built in 1978 after the prior one burned down the year before. Bates says the existing facility is no longer appropriate for today’s needs and that it lacks room for equipment, training areas and accommodations during emergencies.
Information on how to donate can be found on the Ruthven Fire Department’s Facebook page or by sending a check to Iowa State Bank at P.O. Box 249 in Ruthven, where an account has been set up.
