Collision At North Y In Spencer Sends Two People To The Hospital

August 04, 2025

(Spencer)– A two-vehicle collision Saturday at the north Y in Spencer sent two people to the hospital.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says 56-year-old Willis Saewert of Waukon, Iowa, was driving a 2014 Dodge Ram and had stopped at the intersection of Highways 18 and 71. Deputies say he then pulled into the path of a southbound 2010 Dodge Ram driven by 61-year-old John Santana of Newell.

Santana and a female passenger in his vehicle were taken to Spencer Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. No injuries were reported to Saewart and a passenger in his vehicle.

Saewert was cited for failure to obey a stop or yield sign.

The vehicle driven by Saewert was totaled; about $8,000 in damage was estimated to the one driven by Santana.

The collision took place around 2:30 pm Saturday.
