(Spencer)– Construction of a new Emergency Department at Spencer Hospital is winding down. Brenda Tiefenthaler, President of Spencer Hospital, says the improvements will enhance the delivery of emergency care services…
“It allows us to enhance the care with increased privacy, improved comfort and greater efficiency. It’s going to be much larger than our current Emergency Department and it offers an on-stage off-stage concept where patients and families can enter into their patient rooms in kind of a private hallway. A lot less noise and then there’s a second door into that room where the staff and physicians from the center core where the work is happening can enter into the room. So it separates the noise and the chaos that sometimes can happen in an Emergency Department, from the patient. It’s a lot more comfortable room for them when they’re coming into the Emergency Department. It also offers enhanced privacy. As you check in you are checking in in a more private area and then again you’re going to enter your room through a private hallway.”
Tiefenthaler says the project follows years of planning and designing…
“We’ve actually been working on this concept for about seven years. Covid happened in the middle of that so that delayed it slightly. We have done 12 other site visits to other facilities to see what’s out there and what we could bring back to our facility. We included staff levels, doctors, we included lots of leaders and lots of input in the design of the project, so we feel super excited about the final layout that we landed on.”
Tiefenthaler adds the public will have a firsthand opportunity to view the improvements at some open houses next week…
The new Emergency Department at Spencer Hospital will officially open to patients at 8:00 am Wednesday, August 13
th.
