Jackson County Farm Family Receives Special Honor

July 28, 2025

(Jackson, Mn.)– A Jackson county farm family is receiving some special recognition. Jeff and Jen Tewes (tay’-viss) and their children, Cade and Meta , have been named 2025 Farm Family of The Year by the University of Minnesota Extension Service. Jen Tewes (tay’-viss) says they’re humbled by the honor…

“We were approached by a county commissioner if we would accept the nomination if we were given that opportunity and honestly as a family Jeff and I talked about it because we’re not really all about that kind of stuff but we thought we’d have to accept that nomination and that honor because it really is an honor.”

Jeff Tewes says their family farm has a rich heritage…

“My grandfather came to the area as a immigrant from Germany. That’s how our name is pronounced nothing like it’s spelled. My grandpa worked for local farmers, farmed for a little while, retired. My parents were in Chicago and didn’t want to raise a family in Chicago and my grandfather had a good friend that would rent my dad a farm. Out of the blue in 1967, not that long ago in reality in farming operations, the farm was started with Bob and Marlene Tewes and in 1993 I came back to the farm.”

Jen Tewes says since then, they’ve added sheep and goats to the operation. Not only that, but they also recently purchased a Bob’s Fleet Supply in Jackson…

“We really appreciate a small community and the relationships that we have and honestly we considered buying the store a year before we did and we just thought we don’t have the time, and it was still, you know, for sale. They were trying to decide what to do with it as the family was, and we just knew that our community and, I don’t know, something in us called us to make that step and purchase it.”

The Tewes’ will be recognized Tuesday evening at the Jackson County Fair during the annual 4-H Winner’s Circle event at 5:30 pm at the Olson Pavilion. They, along with other County Farm Family of The Year recipients from throughout Minnesota, will also be recognized during Farm Fest August 5th-7th near Redwood Falls.
