Family Nature Night Coming Up Friday (May 16th) At Horseshoe Bend

May 12, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Okoboji)– The Dickinson County Conservation Board will host a Family Nature Night Friday, May 16th from 5:00 until 6:00 pm. Community Relations Coordinator Amy Heibult says it will be taking place at Horseshoe Bend County Park southwest of Milford…

“We’re going to begin with a little bit of a hike to our track and wildlife station. Families will get to learn about different animals that are found out on the property and here in Iowa. They’ll get to study tracks where they can take a piece of paper and make kind of a rub imprint using provided drawing materials and paper. And then if families want to continue going on that hike there’s other stations like our digging and exploring station so we’ll have shovels and magnifying glasses to kind of discover the earth below. We’ll also have a station set up for birding. You can grab a pair of binoculars and we’ll have some identification books and our Naturalist and Education Coordinator will also be there to help point out species and identify those as well.”

Heibult says this is a peak time for bird watching and just enjoy the outdoors in general…

“The Horseshoe Bend Wildlife Area is a beautiful property right along the Little Sioux River. It’s a great time right now with the trees just starting to bud out it’s a great time to get out and see wildlife.”

The May 16th event is free but pre-registration is required. You can do that at Dickinson County Conservation Board-dot-com. The deadline to sign up is 5:00 pm this Wednesday, May 14th.
