(Estherville)– A very special honor for one of our very own. Scott Nolte, Sports Director for KUOO, Q102 and Y100, is the 2025 recipient of the Jim Hall Outstanding Alumni Award.
The award is presented each year by the Iowa Lakes Community College Friends and Alumni Association in memory of Hall who was a former football coach at the college and strong supporter of ILCC. The group’s Treasurer, Deb Weston, says the award is presented each year to a past graduate who exemplifies Hall’s character…
“We look for somebody that is involved in the community, somebody that has made a difference in people’s lives, is a role model.”
Nolte grew up in Storm Lake. He, along with his wife and children, reside in Spencer. Nolte says he’s very humbled and honored to be this year’s recipient…
“I’ve been in this profession either part time or full time for 30 years. I had a part time job when I was 16 in radio and now full time here with our company for almost 19 years, it will be 19 in August. It means a lot. It’s a lot of long hours and long days and road trips but it’s all worth it and I’m just really honored and am really humbled by the award.”
Nolte says Iowa Lakes Community College will always hold a very special place in his heart…
“So actually I graduated 26 years ago almost to the day of this ceremony, 1999. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. After high school I was looking for a broadcasting school and I knew this was the profession I wanted to get into and I toured the campus here. I think it was the first one I toured and I just fell in love with it right away and it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.”
Nolte also expressed his gratitude to those who made it possible…
“I just want to thank my coworkers, my family, everyone for supporting me. This just has been a lifelong dream of mine to be in the community that I am and the region of the state that I am. I love working with all the schools and the athletes, the superintendents, the Athletic Directors. This is the only place I’ve ever wanted to be.”
Weston says they’re already looking for nominations for next year’s Jim Hall Outstanding Alumni Award…
“They can go on to the Iowa Lakes home page under alumni and friends or type in Jim Hall under the search and then it will come up with the application or the nomination form to fill out. We highly recommend that if you know of anybody that’s graduated from Iowa Lakes Community College that has done anything to be a big impact in their community, to the youth, anything like that. We like to have a lot of people nominated so it makes it tough for us to decide who we want to give it to you.”
This year’s Jim Hall Outstanding Alumni Award was presented during a ceremony Friday at the Estherville campus of Iowa Lakes Community College.
