Fire Weather Watch To Go In Effect For Portions Of The Region This Weekend

May 09, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Undated)– Concern is growing over the increased fire danger as we head into the weekend.

While the danger is already fairly high, officials say it will ramp up even more this weekend. The National Weather Service has issued a fire weather watch that will be in effect Sunday from 11:00 am until 9:00 pm for Lyon, Osceola and Sioux counties in Iowa and ALL of southwest Minnesota.

Forecasters say a combination of temperatures in the 80’s and 90’s, combined with strong wind gusting as high as 45 mph by later in the day Sunday, along with very low relative humidity, will set the stage for a very high fire danger.
