UDMO Looking Ahead To The Upcoming School Year

May 09, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– Upper Des Moines Opportunity is once again offering help for those who need assistance in purchasing clothes and school supplies for the upcoming school year.  Jason Petersen, Dickinson County Outreach Specialist Jason Petersen, talks about the event…

“We have a partnership with Bomgars on Sunday August 3rd to provide clothes to children as they go back to school from pre K up through grade 12. Its all income based, Dickinson County residents. Bomgars shuts down for us on that Sunday night and allows our folks to come in and shop. We get donations from the community to help with that.”

Families get to shop for their kids on Sunday August 3rd at Bomgaars but Petersen says that is not all that they will receive…

“All the children that come that night will get a backpack with the school supplies from their classroom. A lot of that is provided by the local Kiwanis organizations, and Grape Tree, and Dollar General over in Lake Park and then other community members as well.”

The application deadline is on July 16th. For more information on how to apply or if you are interested in contributing to the program you can call the UDMO Outreach office at 712-336-1112. Names of all applicants are confidential and assistance is based on income.
