Planning Continues For The Faster Horses Flood Relief Festival June 21st In Spencer

May 05, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– We are closing in on the one year anniversary of a disaster that would forever change portions of Spencer. It was June 21st, 2024, that massive flooding would overtake the city, which continues to recover and re-build.

Eli Alger of the band Faster Horses was the opening act for Trace Adkins at last year’s Clay County Fair. Alger says he saw the devastation through a video and was inspired to do something to help. That’s where he came up with the idea of a benefit festival and concert, which will be held this coming June 21st at the Clay County Fairgrounds. He says they’re goal is this…

“Our goal, the dream, is to raise two million bucks to build at least 10 homes with Habitat for Humanity.”

Alger says he’s been reaching out to the community and the response he’s been getting is phenomenal…

“There’s so many people that were affected by the flood and got devastated whether it be personally or in their business, and they’re going where do I sign up, how do I help? I want to help, I want to be a part of this in a big way. We’ve seen people really step up to the plate that we didn’t expect. We weren’t even asking. This has just been to inform and going forward, please, nobody is obligated to throw in on this thing. This is just because we believe in helping people and we know that there is a plethora of folks in this county, in Clay county, that need that help.”

Alger says he’s going to be promoting the benefit on a much larger scale very soon…

“I’m going to be doing an interview with Coach Dan Gable who’s going to be endorsing this entirely, encouraging folks to be a part of it. I can’t wait to be able to release that thing. That’s going to be happening soon.”

Alger says they’ll also soon be announcing the entertainment line-up. You can find more information at Faster Horses Flood Relief-dot-com.
