Renovation Of Former Railroad Trestle & Fishing Piers At Clare Wilson Park About To Begin

April 29, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Okoboji)– A renovation of the former railroad trestle, fishing piers and parking lot at Clare Wilson State Park, or the grade between East and West Lakes Okoboji, is about to get underway. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says the trestle, piers and parking lot will be closed for about six weeks beginning this coming Monday, May 5th.

Officials say major structural upgrades will be made to improve safety and aesthetics. The project includes replacement of deteriorated decking and railings along with repairs from last year’s flooding.

Bikers and hikers on the Iowa Great Lakes Spine Trail will need to use the designated trail route along the west side of the corridor bridge on Highway 71 while the work is taking place.
