April 24, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– A Spirit Lake man has been arrested on theft and forgery charges. The forgery charge stems from a criminal complaint filed by Spirit Lake police. It accuses 24-year-old Dev Mehta of altering the signature on a check for $2,300. The incident is alleged to have occurred back on March 3rd.

The theft charge stems from a separate criminal complaint, filed by the Okoboji Police Department. It accuses Mehta of stealing a rental vehicle from a business in that city. The complaint states that police in Charleston, West Virginia made contact with Mehta on March 31st of this year as he was behind the wheel of the vehicle.

Mehta is being held in the Dickinson county jail on a $15,000 bond.

The charges are class D and C felonies, respectively.
