(Des Moines)– Governor Kim Reynolds Tuesday signed the Disaster Relief Bill into law, also known as Senate File 619. Among other things, it adds $11.6 million to fully fund the Disaster Recovery Housing Assistance Program launched in July, 2024, in response to last year’s flooding and severe storms. The legislation also extends a tax exclusion for housing developers who received awards under the State Disaster New Housing Grant Program; adjusts insurance regulations to better protect consumers and homeowners from unfair practices; adds $2 million to the Nuisance Property and Abandoned Building Fund to help with demolition costs for disaster-damaged buildings; and establishes a revolving fund to build resiliency from future disasters.
