More Road Work Set For This Summer In Estherville

April 14, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Estherville)– A major street project is coming up this summer in Estherville. The City Council last week adopted a resolution approving a bid for the work. City Administrator Penny Clayton says the D.O.T held a bidletting back in March as that agency is helping to pay for the project on South 1st Street…

“They’re providing $280,000 in grant funding for this project. We’re basically going to take off and re-surface about four and-a-half inches of milling and hot mix asphalt overlay on South 1st Street. This will start at the intersection of 1st Avenue South, so kind of by the old Employee’s Credit Union there, and it will continue through to about ECOG where the concrete starts from the previous project. We are adding five foot paved shoulders and we’ll be doing the driveway entrances in that rural section.”

Clayton says the road will be closed to traffic while the work is going on. While an exact timeframe for the project hasn’t been released just yet, Clayton says it won’t interfere with RAGBRAI. Blacktop Services of Humboldt was the low bidder on the project at a little more than $657,000.
