(Wallingford)– Firefighters from multiple agencies battled a grass fire Tuesday near High Lake, east of Wallingford.
The Wallingford Fire Department was called to 2300 440th Avenue and found the fire moving into some DNR land. Mutual aid was then requested from the Estherville, Gruver, Ringsted and Graettinger Fire Departments. They were able to contain and eventually extinguish the fire before it could spread any further and threaten some structures. Some farmers assisted using ATV’s, a loader and a tractor.
Firefighters were on the scene about two hours. No injuries were reported.
Officials say it was the result of a controlled burn that got out of hand.
