(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake Fire Department holds one of its largest fundraisers of the year this weekend. Chief Pat Daly says they’ll be holding their pancake feed Saturday. He says this year marks a special milestone for the event…
“This will be our 70th pancake feed right at the station. We’d just like to see everybody in town come in and say hi. We’re going to go from 7:00 in the morning until 1:00. It’s a freewill donation, just makes it easier. There’s pancake, sausage, coffee, milk. All you can eat.”
Daly says a lot of things have changed over the 70 years they’ve held the event…
“I did look back in the history for Spirit Lake and found out that in February they decided to have the pancake feed in March of 1955. Adults were 60 cents and kids were 30. Of course you could buy a fire truck for a thousand bucks. Now they’re $800,000 to $900,000 for an engine, so.”
Again Saturday’s pancake feed will be from 7:00 am until 1:00 pm at the Spirit Lake Fire Station with a freewill donation. Daly says proceeds from this year’s event will go toward updating high angle rescue equipment.
