(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake Fire Department responded to a couple of grass and wildland fires Sunday, both of them on 140th Street in Diamond Lake Township.
Firefighters were called around 12:30 pm to 1992 140th Street just northeast of Montgomery where they say what started as a controlled burn got out of control and threatened a house. Crews quickly put out the fire and prevented it from spreading to the residence.
The other call came in around 5:30 pm. Firefighters were called to a brush and wildland fire at 2236 140th Street in the Jemmerson Slough area. It took about an hour and-a-half to put it out. The Spirit Lake Fire Department says the cause of that fire is still under investigation.
