(Spencer)– Spencer Municipal Utilities has received some national recognition for safety. SMU is a recipient of the American Public Power Association’s Safety Award of Excellence for safe operating practices in 2024. The utility earned a diamond award in the category for utilities with 30,000 to 59,999 worker-hours of annual worker exposure. More than 200 utilities entered the annual Safety Awards for 2024.
Steve Pick, SMU General Manager/CEO says the award is a testament to the hard work that goes into ensuring employees go home safe to their families each and every day. He says the award is especially notable due to the special hazards that came with last year’s flood.
