IGL Chamber Accepting Walleye Weekend Grant Applications

March 03, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Arnolds Park)– The Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce is now accepting grant applications for Walleye Weekend 2025. Chamber CEO Blain Andera says the grants are funded through tournament proceeds. He says last year they were able to donate $21,000 to various fishing-related groups and projects…

“Any Dickinson county nonprofit, it has to be a 501C3 organization with a focus on water quality or fishing in the Iowa Great Lakes. For instance we’ve given to the Iowa Great Lakes Fishing Club for a future fish cleaning station that’s going to be happening. We’ve donated or gave a grant to Big Spirit Protective Association for the dock up on Templar Park on Spirit Lake. So things like that are what we’re interested in helping out with. The Okoboji Protective Association has received funds for their CLAMP program; Millers Bay Conservancy, we gave to them last year to help put in a access dock for kayaks, things like that.”

Application forms can be found online…

“It’s right on the Iowa Great Lakes Walleye Weekend page on the Okoboji Chamber-dot-com so just go to Okoboji Chamber-dot-com and click on the events tab with Walley Weekend. We’ve got a link right there for the grant application. It’s the same as the fishing tournament: they have to have the information into us by 11:59 pm on Friday, May 2nd.”

Grant recipients and awarded amounts will be announced following Walleye Weekend, coming up May 3rd and 4th.
