Cleanup Of Flood Debris In Little Sioux River At Spencer To Get Underway This Spring

February 19, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– A project to clean up flood debris in the Little Sioux River at Spencer gets underway this spring. City Manager Kevin Robinson says the work will be conducted by the NRCS, the agency responsible for such work under federal law…

“They have visited Spencer. They have geo mapped the different damages. There’s two basic types of damage. One would be the encroachment of the river bank towards our bike trail in West Leach Park; and the miscellaneous debris downstream from the Grand Avenue bridge, especially on the S curves in the Del’s Garden area off of Highway 18. They’re planning their spring clean up. They’re going through the analysis now of what they will and won’t pick up. There’s also natural organic debris that’s clogged up in the river that’s causing issues with navigation for recreation.”

Robinson told the city council Monday he’ll continue to be in contact with the agency for further updates as the clean-up operations get closer.
