(Spirit Lake)– If you’re experiencing a lot of coughing, fever and body aches right now, you’re far from being alone. Katy Carey of Dickinson County Public Health tells KUOO news they’re seeing a lot of respiratory illnesses right now. She says case levels are much higher this season compared to previous years…
“What we’re mostly seeing is influenza A for those that are testing right now. Covid is low on the test, but there is a combination of some RSV and some other things in there, but yeah, influenza A is very strong right now.”
Carey says there are several things you can do to protect yourself…
“So first of all it’s not too late to get vaccinated so certainly feel free to call our office in Public Health otherwise you can reach out to your pharmacy as well to get vaccinated. And then just those common sense pieces still hold true. So staying home when you’re sick to stop the spread, covering your cough and washing those hands.”
Carey says most schools throughout Iowa, including those in Dickinson county, have been reporting absentee rates as high as 10 percent recently.
