(Spencer)– Two people died in a head-on crash early this (Friday) afternoon on Highway 71 just north of Spencer, about a half mile north of the North Y.
The Iowa State Patrol says 70-year-old Randall Dykstra of Everly was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado northbound and 45-year-old Bridget Baird of Milford was driving a 2017 Nissan Rogue southbound in the northbound lane.
Both Dykstra and Baird were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Spencer Fire and Rescue and the Fostoria Fire Department assisted on the scene, along with a towing service.
The collision took place a little before 1:00 pm. It resulted in the highway in that area being shut down for several hours.
