(Milford)– The Milford City Council Monday evening decided not to shift parade routes off of Highway 71. Police Chief Shilo Brevik had requested the council consider moving the route off the highway siting safety concerns and logistics with moving the heavy traffic onto adjoining side streets. The council noted the chief’s concerns but opted to keep the route through the heart of the city’s business district after hearing from members of the Milford Commercial Club and organizers of the Pioneer Days Parade.
Mayor Steve Anderson suggested the city and club look into putting up signs in advance of parades encouraging traffic to use Highway 86 in order to get as much traffic as possible re-routed ahead of time.
Routes for the Pioneer Days and Okoboji Homecoming parades this past year had to be revised due to road construction.
