(Estherville)– A recreation enhancement project along the West Fork of the Des Moines River in Estherville has been awarded $650,000 through the federal Recreational Trails Program. It’s part of a little more than $1.6 million awarded to four projects around the state.
The Federal Recreational Trails Program was created in 1991 to develop and maintain recreational trails and trail-related facilities for motorized and non-motorized trail users. Funding is available to cities, counties, state and federal agencies as well as private organizations.
The Iowa Transportation Commission approved the awards during a meeting Tuesday.
