(Milford)– A tasty competition and fundraiser for area fire departments is coming up this weekend. Jason Simpson of the Milford Fire Department says The Battle Of The Chili Pots will be held this Saturday…
“This year marks the seventh annual tasting and judging contest for some of the best chili recipes that some of our area firefighters can put together. The event is scheduled this Saturday from 5:00 to 7:00 and over the years we’ve had it as a traveling chili feed, so this year it’s being hosted at the Milford Fire Station.”
Simpson says as in past years, the public will have a say as to which department has the tastiest chili…
“It’s a freewill donation and you get a cup and spoon. You get handed a red bead and a white bead and you go around to each department and you taste their chili, multiple times if you need to, and whichever one you feel is the best chili you put your voting bead in their jar in front of their chili pot.”
Simpson says they’re thrilled with how the event has grown over the years…
“It’s crazy that seven years ago Russ Bell and I kind of sat down and came up with this idea thinking I wonder if this would work and it has been just a great deal that we can get the public to come out to the departments. They can bring their kids, they get to look at the fire trucks, get to talk to the firefighters, and maybe they might be interested in joining a department.”
Proceeds from the event will be evenly divided among the seven participating departments.
